3/10/2024 0 Comments Sure cut a lot 2 expression 2.35regular but for the most part it becomes a single remote push (assuming girder) to set the correct AR to use for the current movie (and I believe both will remember). It will take a little work to configure the aspect ratios and zoom's for 2.35 vs. ZP or TT will then make sure that all DVD's look correct and it will just put black borders on the sides as appropriate. With a HTPC (and the correct software) you should only need a single setup at whatever resolution ends up working well for you. You can set up the vertical resolution to be a lot higher than the active area to get some extra squeeze out of it. If you're not using one of these then you're causing way too much work for yourself (and maybe that's why you're not catching everything so quickly).Ģ - Powerstrip (or the Nvidia drivers with advanced timing settings). So a couple of key apps you really want to make sure you have at hand:ġ - Theater tek or Zooom Player (and potentially Mediator). Although you miught think that just increasing the resolution would be the same, it looks better with the compressed raster. The more you compress the raster, the closer the scan lines become, this in turn also creates a sharper better looking picture. I don't necessarily agree for CRT but he's had a lot more experience than I have. The HTPC also lets you set up large raster and smaller active image (porches) if you're having trouble squeezing down too far.įor digital devices (as Bruce pointed out) a HTPC is just about essential and rectangular pixels are going to get you a good pixel-perfect match and still keep the image looking right. ![]() ![]() It's functionally equivalent to using a 2.35 resolution but the software is compensating for the fact that you don't have square pixels and it crops and stretches to make the picture look correct.ĬZ Eddie, are you using a HTPC or standard AV equipment (scaler, etc)? HTPC really makes 2.35 work well as you can keep a single setup and just let the software handle all of the different ratios for you (just a single projector setup). This is not a deciding factor though and there are work-arounds to fit these aspect ratios on my screen.Īctually, GScott's suggestion would have 2.35 be full sized without any cropping/empty screen. The downside is now I'm realizing that I can't get my raster height small enough to create a proper 16:9 and 4:3 raster within my screen area. In fact, I so much more prefer this screen size that last night at Hollywood DVD, I found that I was picking out movies only based on criteria that it was 2.35:1. But for me it's still a step backwards as I want 2.35 to be full sized without any cropping or empty screen area. I reread and I think I understand what you're getting at. Thought you were putting us down for going with 2.35 screens instead of 16:9. It's not a true 16:9 resolution but you can adjust the picture size to fit your screen. You just use the projector's size/shift controls to make the picture fit the screen and then use the HTPC to correct the DVD aspect ratio. I'm not saying to use a 16:9 screen I'm saying you can use a 16:9 resolution on a 2.35:1 screen. I set it to 1692 but when I went back in and looked at the timings, I saw that Powerstrip had adjusted it from 1692 down to 1688. Keith Murray, thanks for sharing your resolution. I'll create that one in Powerstrip and create a recall on my PJ for it to test it. Pcgeek, thanks for sharing your resolution. It's easier for the eyeballs to move left/right to follow what's going on in the picture than it is for eyeballs to move up/down. As a 2.35 screen, the width stretches left to right taking up 90% of my field of vision. ![]() ![]() If that were a 16:9 screen it would be too hard to watch. GScott, My screen takes nearly the entire width of my room. The PJ won't project any image on the sides. My next step is to create 16:9 and 4:3 raster and recalls that fit within the screen top to bottom. Jim, it fits 2.35 perfectly on a 2.35 shaped screen. I'll take pics this weekend with the border attached. Had to goto Walmart at 9:50PM in my pajamas to buy a new stapler. I was reloading the stapler when the part you push in to hold the staples in place, kinda "sproinged" off the stapler and dissapeared into a dark section of my garage. I was 90% done with the stapling when I encountered a problem. It's still a work in progress but the frame is made and the blackout cloth stretched/stapled and it's hung on the wall. Ed, do you have a 2.35:1 screen up? If so, I would really like to see it!!
